Individual
Therapy
Psychotherapy
with
a well trained psychologist is
effective in helping
individuals cope with very
specific issues as well as
changing chronic patterns that
lead to unhappiness and
dissatisfaction in life,
relationships, and
career.
Dr.
Ware and Dr. Liss-Clarke are
skilled in working with
clients with a variety of
presenting concerns,
including:
-
Anxiety and related concerns
such as panic, panic attacks,
obsessive compulsive disorder
(OCD), social anxiety, and
phobia
-
Issues in 30's and 40's
such as single issues,
marriage, divorce, children
(or decisions/struggles
regarding having children),
and career development
-
Issues in 50's, which may
include continued career
issues or recareering,
caring for aging parents,
empty nest, relationship
issues/adjustments
-
Issues in 60's, such as
decisions concerning
retirement and changes in
lifestyle, adult children,
aging parents, and possible
health concerns
-
Issues for seniors,
including transitional
states related to health,
living arrangements, loss of
a spouse/partner, etc.
This
is certainly not an exhaustive
list of concerns for which the
psychologists at Ware Wellness
Group are trained to help!
If
you're considering therapy,
Ware Wellness Group recommends
an initial consultation
session, for which there is no
charge.
This
45 minute face-to-face meeting
with the psychologist will
allow the doctor to better
understand the issues you
would like to address during
therapy. During this
initial meeting, the
psychologist will begin to
formulate an appropriate
treatment approach. The
psychologist can answer any
questions you may have about
that psychologist's
professional background and
experience with your
particular difficulties,
provide information about what
you can expect from therapy,
and discuss fees and
scheduling.
During
this initial consultation, you
should pay attention to the
“fit” between you and the
psychologist.
Although
an initial meeting with a
psychologist can cause some
anxiety, you should begin to
feel some level of comfort
during your initial
consultation and have a sense
that you will be able to open
up with the psychologist about
your struggles, thoughts, and
feelings. Feel free to
ask for the names of other
psychologists competent in the
area of concern, should you
wish to interview other
psychologists. This
initial consultation is not
intended to be a therapy
session, but an opportunity to
share information.
The
course of therapy varies
according to the goals of the
therapy client. Some
clients are interested in
short term work to address a
specific issue; in such a
situation, the psychologist
may recommend
cognitive-behavioral or brief
insight building
therapy. Other clients
would like to explore more
complicated issues or
longstanding concerns, such as
difficult childhoods or
chronic patterns of
maladjustment. When
working on more entrenched
issues, the psychologist may
recommend longer term work and
utilize a psychodynamic
approach.
Psychodynamic
psychotherapy involves delving
into pertinent background and
relationship issues, as well
as exploring conscious and
unconscious motivations for
remaining in the same behavior
patterns. The
psychologists at Ware Wellness
Group have many years of
training and practice in both
cognitive behavioral and
psychodynamic therapy.
Empirical evidence supports
the efficacy of both cognitive
behavioral therapy as well as
psychodynamic therapy. A
combination of approaches is
effective for treating
current, specific issues in
addition to longer standing
maladaptive patterns.
At
times, an individual wants to
form a professional
relationship with a
psychologist but is not
interested in ongoing therapy
at the time. This
approach is appropriate for
individuals who have found
therapy helpful in the past,
but no longer have access to
the original psychologist
(because of a relocation, for
example), or who are currently
managing well, but anticipate
increased stress or
difficulties down the road
(for example, if a loved one
is chronically ill or another
significantly stressful event
is anticipated in the future).
By meeting with a psychologist
and establishing a
relationship over three to
four sessions, the client has
a resource to turn to in times
of increased difficulty
without having to start from
scratch in seeking a
psychologist during a
stressful time.
The
psychologist will discuss
these approaches with you
during the initial stages of
therapy and together you will
develop a plan that best suits
your needs.
Forensic
Services
Forensic
services may involve
consultation, file review,
assessment, and/or treatment
of an individual involved in
litigation. Dr. Ware’s
background in this field
includes deposition experience
as well as courtroom
testimony.
Help
in Coping with Medical Issues
Dealing
with medical problems is
stressful for everyone; even
the most well balanced
individual can become
overwhelmed when faced with
medical illness or the illness
of a loved one. Navigating the
healthcare system and
following recommended
treatments can add heavily to
the burden. Of course,
added stress does not promote
healing. In fact,
increased stress, anxiety, and
depression can further deplete
your body’s healing
potential. Finding
healthy ways to cope with your
medical illness can assist you
in managing your stress and
feeling more in control of
your situation.
Psychologists can help you
manage your medical illness by
teaching you specific stress
management and relaxation
techniques. Many studies
support the efficacy of these
techniques in decreasing blood
pressure, improving immune
system functioning, and
lowering levels of stress
hormones in the blood.
